HelpWater bottles made from 100% plants are naturally better.

Using 100% plant made bottles will enable companies to improve their sustainable practices and step away from using plastics which are made with finite resources such as fossil fuels and reduce their carbon footprint.

HelpWater bottles are made from Poly lactic Acid (PLA), an annually renewable plant source, rather than scarce fossil fuels. The bottles produce 60% less greenhouse gases and use 50% less fossil fuels in their production. PLA is derived 100% from plants such as corn, cassava and sugar beet. As the plants grow they consume harmful greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2). Only 0.04% of the annual global corn crop is used to make all PLA plastics from our supplier, so there is little to no impact on food supply or prices.

PLA bottles will bio-degrade in conditions >60° C, and will burn without releasing pollutants into the atmosphere. The bottles produce an acceptable compost material under industrial composting conditions, according to standard BS EN 13432, having shown that they biodegrade under industrial composting conditions, fully compostable without releasing pollutants into the atmosphere.

With the strategy of Europe and the world committed to Zero Landfill, 100% plant made bottles are the future.

Neither our bottle nor our caps contain PET

And unlike some traditional PET plastic containers ours won’t leach potentially harmful chemicals into the product either. So our product stays as pure as the moment it was bottled. It looks great too thanks to the outstanding bottle clarity and glass-like transparency that exceeds the visual appeal of PET bottles.


100% plant made bottles derived from naturally occurring plants
Production of our bottles starts with dextrose as the base feedstock used in a fermentation process (much like beer or wine), which converts sugar to lactic acid. We use that lactic acid to then create a polymer, which is later converted to produce the bottles.

Only 0.04% of the annual global crop is used to produce PLA, this means there is little to no impact on world food pricing.


 

Various end of life solutions (the important stuff)
HelpWater bottles can be recycled into a product that can be used as a valuable soil supplement, as the bottles undergo a two-step degradation process. First, the moisture and heat in the compost pile attacks the polymer chains and splits them apart, creating smaller polymers and finally lactic acid, a fully sustainable source.
Micro-organisms in compost and soil consume the smaller polymer fragments and lactic acid as nutrients.


Since lactic acid is widely found in nature, a large number of organisms metabolize lactic acid. At a minimum, fungi and bacteria participate in this degradation process. The end result of the process is carbon dioxide, water and also humus, a soil nutrient.
Reducing the amount of organic waste that ends up in landfills will assist in reducing greenhouse emissions and extending the productive life of landfills. Diverting organic waste to composting sites also recovers nutrients that would otherwise be lost to landfills, returning them to the soil as nutrient rich compost that can help to improve soil quality and water retention, reduce fertilizer use and assist in the remediation of carbon deficient soil.
They can also be sent to Waste for Energy sites where they produce a high temperature and burn without releasing pollutant or can be returned back to a polymer.
HelpWater bottles won’t undo what has already been done – but it may just help to stem the tide of plastic pollution and offer a better future for those we love and the future they inherit.
Even if our bottles are disposed of carelessly or recklessly, they pose no long-term threat to the environment, unlike PET bottles.
